Warning to Residents in the Bletchley Area,
Police and Trading Standards are issuing a warning to householders in the Bletchley area following a recent incident in which an 85‑year‑old resident was deceived into unnecessary roof repairs. Officers attended a report involving doorstep traders who initially claimed that a few loose tiles required minor work. The price was presented as low and reasonable. However, once on the roof, the traders alleged further problems and dramatically increased the cost, ultimately charging thousands of pounds for a full roof replacement. In reality, only a small number of tiles needed replacing. Residents are urged not to engage with unsolicited doorstep callers and to avoid agreeing to any work on the spot. Instead, seek at least three independent quotations from reputable traders before authorising repairs. If you are approached by doorstep sellers: • Ask them to leave immediately • Do not allow yourself to be pressured into agreeing to work • Report any suspicious behaviour to the police by calling 101 (non-emergency line)
